Diabetes Education, All DayFamily Resource Center at the Ocean ClubThe focus of diabetic education is on both the person with diabetes and the family.
It centers around blood glucose monitoring, nutrition therapy, exercise and medication management of dibetes. Participants in this program are given one on one time with a dietician and a Certified Diabetes Educator. In addition to personal consultations, participants are offered an educational series of classes designed to expand their knowledge of how to care for their diabetes and improve their quality of life. Lifeline is a simple wireless device worn as a pendant or wristband that allows the wearer to summon help at the push of a button, 24 hours a day, 356 days a year. In case of emergency such as a fall, the subscriber pushes the button activating the CarePartner Communicator, which connects to a trained response associate who quickly assess the situation and dispatches assistance. On Wednesday, March 24, men in southern Ocean County will take advantage of free health screenings, physician-sponsored lectures and a host of interactive educational displays featuring information on SOCH services for men. It's all part of Southern Ocean County Hospital's 11th Annual Men's Health Night on Wednesday, March 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on the first floor of the Hospital.
The free health screenings will include: * Blood pressure * Colon Rectal * Pulmonary Function * Blood Sugar * Foot * Skin Cancer * Hearing * Derma scan
The program will also offer a Lipid Profile, which includes total cholesterol and triglycerides and blood sugar. Participants who wish to have a Lipid Profile need to come to the SOCH Beach Plum Conference Center to have their blood drawn two days before the event on Monday morning, March 22 from 7am-9am. The blood draw is held in the morning, since participants need to fast for 12 hours prior to having their blood drawn. (Participants may have medication and water as needed.) The results of the Lipid Profile will be available during Men's Health Night.
Free health lectures by SOCH physicians will also be offered during the event. At 7:10 pm, SOCH Radiation Oncologist Joseph Lattanzi, MD will give a presentation on "Skin Cancer Update." At 7:40 Dr. Tommy Ng, SOCH Interventional Cardiologist will speak on "Understanding Your Cholesterol and Heart Disease". At 8:00pm, SOCH Gastroenterologist Dr. Jesse Houghton will speak on "What You Need to Know about Heartburn." At 8:15 SOCH Urologist Charles Fernicola, MD will speak on "Prostate Health."
Men's Health Night will feature educational displays from community agencies, and information on SOCH services, including Cardiac Catheterization, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Health Village Imaging, The Diabetes Self Management Program, ElderMed, Nutritional Services, Volunteer Services, Lifeline, Fitness programs, and the CPR Center and more.
